Zumo monthly update: January 2022

Zumo monthly update: January 2022
by Daniel Taylor April 2023

New strategic advisers, building with Zumo, and ambitious scaling plans for 2022.

2022 is off to a dynamic start, and here at Zumo we’re in full building mode as we plan out an exciting roadmap for the year ahead. Here’s your monthly round-up of what we got up to and a select few of the things coming ahead.

Investing in people

First up, we’re glad to report a number of pieces of positive news on the people front this month. As Zumo grows, so too is the Zumo team, and we’re currently hiring for a range of important positions, including Head of Growth and Director of Operations. Please do check out our latest vacancies if you’re interested in building with us, or know someone who might.

Welcome also to our two newly announced strategic advisers, brand adviser & youth culture commentator Jeff Carvalho and industry veteran James Chadwick, who will be contributing their expertise to help shape the next stage of the company’s growth.

Bringing it all together, it was great to see the whole team (including new faces) assembled again in Edinburgh for some collaborative strategising, and to swap out the pre-Xmas steaks for pizza and on-tap beer. Here’s to a great 2022.

Zero Heroes

Heading into the third month of our Zero Hero pilot aimed at offering our customers a greener choice for managing their crypto finances, uptake has been extremely positive, with hundreds of you becoming Zero Heroes so far and some half a million pounds worth of BTC transacted. On this basis, we will be extending the project to the end of April, at which point we hope to report in further detail on our findings and next steps.

In the meantime, we’re encouraged to see the spark catching on across the crypto community, and recently were glad both to input to new electricity and carbon accounting guidelines developed for the sector as a whole, and to be showcased for our work by the Crypto Climate Accord.

Kirsteen Harrison, our Environmental and Sustainability Adviser, continues to work tirelessly to share insights and drive forward the conversation, most recently speaking at a Finimize community event to answer FAQs about crypto and the decarbonisation journey.

In the news

Speaking of press, we were pleased to see Zumo kick off the year with a Digit listing as one of the 15 Scottish Tech Companies to Watch in 2022. Not to mention, the whole team has been hard at work, with select features including: Paul, Co-Founder & CPO, speaking to Business Insider about the blurring lines between crypto and traditional finance; Amelie, our Marketing Director, sharing her thoughts on making crypto more accessible and inspiring women in fintech; and Nick, Co-Founder and CEO, on the slate to speak at Codebase Edinburgh to answer the timely question: What is Web 3.0?

Welcoming the Gen Z club

With the increasing interest in crypto among the Gen Z demographic (as we reported last year), we’re also delighted to have teamed up with The Gen Z Club to offer a virtual crypto masterclass taking place on Thursday 24th February.

New Zumo customers will have the chance to learn-and-earn by attending the event and then downloading the Zumo app to claim a £5 welcome gift. Full details can be found on the event page here.

That just about wraps it up for this update – we hope you’ve had a good start to the year, and we’ll see you back here next month for another round of Zumo updates.
