Marking milestones, financial literacy and a team effort for a good cause.

As summer draws to a rapid close, crypto markets are buoyant once more and news of adoption continues to grow. Here’s a little of what we’ve been up to over the past month at Zumo HQ!

Looking back, moving forwards

August marked one year since the close of our seed funding round in August 2020, and we were delighted to celebrate that milestone with 100X growth in our user base from then to now. If you missed it, you can read all about it in our year in review. Onwards and upwards to all the exciting things we have lined up for the year to come!

Top you up there?

Topping up your Zumo wallet is now easier than ever with a new open-banking enabled payment initiation service integrated in the latest version of the Zumo app. The new feature lets customers get pounds from their bank accounts to their Zumo wallet in four streamlined steps, more about that here.

Around the web

The crypto (and non-crypto!) conversation continues, with highlights from the month including a debut from CFO Devina on BBC sounds, and a contribution from COO Dagmara (PDF p.29)  on shaping company culture in the crypto space – another area in which Zumo is trying to do things better.

If that wasn’t enough, we were delighted to be accepted into the TechNation Fintech 4.0 growth programme, to join the race for Hackernoon Startup of the Year and to have been nominated as best mobile wallet at the People’s Choice Crypto Awards. Still time to get your votes in by the way!

Financial literacy for all

Financial education is a topic we care a lot about – and a foundational pillar of financial wellness, irrespective of age or background. Last month, we were privileged to be joined by Selina Flavius of Black Girl Finance, who spoke about her story as founder of a financial education community specifically for black women, the value of good basic financial information and education full-stop, and the casual investor’s evolving relationship with cryptocurrency. Thank you Selina, and look out for more from her on the Zumo blog!

Good causes

As proud partners of waste recycling charity Wasteaid, the Zumo team will be getting together next month to do a sponsored walk around Edinburgh and hopefully raise £5000 to support Waste Aid’s good work.

We hear there are some resplendent Zumo pink T-shirts – check future updates for visual confirmation! And a particular well done to all the team members who have been doing a range of swimming/Tough Mudder/cycling challenges on the side to raise further funds for a good cause.

Zumo on the road

Finally, even if it’s still in virtual format in some cases, we’re looking forward to joining the conversation and making an appearance at some major upcoming industry events. Money20/20, Open Banking Excellence’s Digital Assets Campfire and the Scotland FinTech Festival are all on the roster – do come and say hello if you’re attending!

In the meantime, we’ll see you back here next month for another round of Zumo updates.
